Maize grows slowly before its first above-ground stem node forms, and its small root system takes up relatively few nutrients. Seed reserves and seed treatment therefore matter at establishment. Nutrition at the 3–5-leaf stage is particularly important as reproductive organs begin to form; the 6–9-leaf stage is another key period for ear development. Maize is especially sensitive to zinc shortage and may need additional support under heat, water or herbicide stress.
The source program recommends Quantum Cereals at 2.0 L/t and Quantum SRKZ at 1.0 L/t. The treatment is intended to support germination, emergence and root growth during early development.
Apply Quantum Cereals at 1.0 L/ha and Quantum Zinc Chelate (Zn) 117 EDTA at 1.0 L/ha. For an intensive program, add Quantum Bor Active at 0.3 L/ha and Quantum Phytophos at 1.0 L/ha.
The intensive foliar program uses Quantum Cereals at 2.0 L/ha and Quantum Bor Active at 0.5 L/ha. If needed for heat, drought or herbicide stress, the source lists separate anti-stress treatments: Quantum AquaSil at 1.0–2.0 L/ha, Quantum AminoMax at 0.5 L/ha, Quantum SeaAmin at 0.5 L/ha or Quantum Humate at 0.5–1.0 L/ha.
The source recommends combining treatments with urea at 5–15 kg/ha. Biuret must not exceed 0.8%, because a higher concentration may damage leaves; otherwise reduce the amount of urea.
